Construction works of the Marriott Hotel, to be opened at the end of 2019 on the land of Tampere Hall, beside the Moomin Museum, are advancing. The hotel construction site covers most of the Tampere Hall yard on the Yliopistonkatu side.
The piling for the foundation of the hotel begins on June 11, and will cause noise nuisance inside the Museum. Piling will also cause occasional vibration. The duration of the piling works is six weeks at minimum.
During the time of the piling, the Museum offers reduced admission Tue-Fri: adults 10 € (norm. 12 €), child 5 € (6 €) and family ticket 25 € (30 €). There is no piling work during the weekends.
For artwork security reasons, the temporary exhibition Tove Jansson and the Moomins has been closed on May 26. The most fragile works at the permanent exhibition of the Museum will be moved to a secure place and replaced with other works. Other protective measures will also be taken at the Moomin Museum due to vibration caused by piling.
The construction site will also close the current entrance to the Tampere Hall yard on Yliopistonkatu. A new entrance to Tampere Hall yard, closer to the main entrance on Yliopistonkatu, will be built for pick-up and drop-off traffic.
Despite the construction works, you can enter into the whole Moomin story at the Moomin Museum, from the Great Flood to the floating theatre of Moominsummer Madness, from the enigma of the lighthouse island to the mysterious disappearance of the Moomin family in November. The story is carried by Tove Jansson’s original Moomin drawings, and our ideas of Moomin adventures are completed by Tuulikki Pietilä’s three-dimensional tableaux.
Our apologies for any inconvenience caused by the construction works to our visitors!
