Moomin Museum’s programme during Manse Pride Week 13–17 June 2023

5.6.2023 The Moomin Museum organizes events in honor of Manse Pride Week, both at the museum and at the Saturday celebration in Sorsapuisto Park. At the museum, selected excerpts from the letters Tove Jansson wrote to her friends and loved ones are read daily. In the Studio’s workshop, participants immerse themselves in floral vibes with a rainbow spirit. On Saturday, June 17th, the museum's Art Carts will set up a workshop in Sorsapuisto Park, among the Pride celebration crowd.

Moomin Museum's exhibition Tumpkin's Time features poems by Kirsi Kunnas together with original illustrations

26.4.2023 Merry Tumpkin and his endearing friends are the stars of the Moomin Museum’s new temporary exhibition, Tumpkin’s Time. It is based on the beloved nursery rhymes authored by the Finnish poet Kirsi Kunnas (1924–2021), who transports the reader to magical worlds of play and imagination. Originally produced by the Päivälehti Museum, the Moomin Museum presents the exhibition in the author’s hometown, featuring delightful original illustrations.

Tove Jansson

Tove Jansson (1914–2001) was not only an author and illustrator, but also a painter, cartoonist and comic strip artist. In addition to authoring Moomin books, she also published novels and collections of short stories. Today she is known around the world as the beloved creator of the Moomins. The Moomin Museum is based on the collection of illustration art donated by her.

Moomin House - our pride and joy

On the lower level of the museum, you’ll find our centrepiece exhibit: a five-storey, over two-metre-tall tableaux of the Moomin House. The enchantingly detailed model was crafted by Tuulikki Pietilä, Dr Pentti Eistola, and Tove Jansson, taking them three years to build. It was unveiled at the Bratislava Biennial of Illustration in 1979, after which it toured the Nordic countries. Today it is a permanent exhibit that can be seen only at the Moomin Museum.
