Tove Jansson
Tove Jansson (1914–2001) was not only an author and illustrator, but also a painter, cartoonist and comic strip artist. In addition to authoring Moomin books, she also published novels and collections of short stories. Today she is known around the world as the beloved creator of the Moomins. The Moomin Museum is based on the collection of illustration art donated by her.

Moomin House - our pride and joy
On the lower level of the museum, you’ll find our centrepiece exhibit: a five-storey, over two-metre-tall tableaux of the Moomin House. The enchantingly detailed model was crafted by Tuulikki Pietilä, Dr Pentti Eistola, and Tove Jansson, taking them three years to build. It was unveiled at the Bratislava Biennial of Illustration in 1979, after which it toured the Nordic countries. Today it is a permanent exhibit that can be seen only at the Moomin Museum.
