27.4.2026 Night of the Museums event is taking over Tampere once again, offering plenty to see and experience on Saturday, May 16, 2026. With an event wristband, you can visit 25 venues, see over 100 program items, watch spectacular performances, and participate in workshops. The program runs from 6 p.m. until midnight, and you can travel between venues on Night of the Museums buses.

7.4.2026 The joint exhibition The Moomins’ Sea Adventures and Tove and the Sea has opened at the National Nordic Museum in the United States. The sea-themed pop-up exhibitions, loaned by the City of Tampere, highlight the importance of the sea to Tove Jansson and how this connection is reflected in the Moomin books.

22.10.2025 In honour of the Moomin 80th anniversary, Tampere Art Museum’s collection artist Tove Jansson has been chosen as the Light Gallery artist of 2025. The light art installation, projected onto the facades of central Tampere buildings, is titled The Moomins’ Journey Home. The illustrations have been selected from Jansson’s very first Moomin story. Light Gallery is part of the Tampere Festival of Light, opening 24 October 2025.

13.10.2025 Tampere Festival of Light is back to brighten up the darkest time of the year with a variety of illuminations and events. The traditional opening ceremony will be held in Koskipuisto Park on Friday, 24 October at 7 pm, and admission to the event is free. This year, the festival will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Moomins with Moomin-themed lighting displays and the Light Gallery exhibition titled The Moomins’ Journey Home.

19.2.2025 Region’s winter holiday starts on 22–23 February 2025 with a weekend event that invites children and childminded people alike to the centre of Tampere for an adventure. There are eight different stops along the route and participants can enter a competition to win a private visit to the world's only Moomin Museum. The event is part of the Moomin 80 anniversary year programme.

20.9.2024 On 21 September 2024, the Moomin Museum will reopen with new original Moomin illustrations by Tove Jansson. All of the museum's paper-based works have been replaced with new works from the collection donated by Tove Jansson. These illustrations are on display for the first time at the Moomin Museum. The jewel of the new exhibition is Tove Jansson's very first illustration of the Moomin House.

Tove Jansson’s delicate original Moomin artwork need a rest after being exhibited to be preserved for future generations, so once again the whole set has been redone. The museum's Studio is open all day, well-known people from Tampere will talk about their own relationship with the Moomins (in Finnish), and the visitors can choose theis favourite Moomin illustration.
