The Moomin – Grand Celebration Day at Tampere Hall

Welcome to a big celebration for the whole family! The Moomin – A Great Celebration Day event will be held at Tampere Hall on Saturday, 8 August 2026, from 10am to 4pm. The event is inspired by Tove Jansson’s birthday on 9 August. Admission to the event is free.

The Moomin Museum is open on the event day from 9 am to 5 pm, and admission is available at a reduced price: adults 9 € (normally 18 €) and children aged 7–17 years 4 € (normally 9 €). Children under 7 are admitted free of charge. Free admission also with the Museum Card.

At the Moomin Museum, among other things:

• 10.30am & 12 noon Adventure with the Moomins: guided tour for children, duration 30 minutes
• 2 pm The Story of the Moomin Books: guided tour for young people and adults, duration 45 minutes
• 10 am to 4 pm The Moomin Museum Studio has a Rosette workshop in glowing jewel tones
  

At the Tampere Hall throughout the day from 10 am to 4 pm.

• Moomin animation marathon (Gutsy Animations Oy) in Duetto 2
• Wallpaper exhibition by Sandudd Oy and a colouring and card-making workshop in Maestro
• Finnish Red Cross Teddy Bear Hospital in Duetto 1
• Plus-Plus Building Workshop outside the Small Auditorium (2nd floor): Come and build Moomin characters with Plus-Plus bricks! Moomin Café in Haru Bar.

The programme during the day also includes:

• 10 am Wreath-laying ceremony at the Moomintroll statue in honour of Tove Jansson’s birthday on 9 August 2026
  • Programme: Tampere Philharmonic fanfare Länge leve Snork (composer: Lauri Kilpinen), performed by Eero Kiukkonen and Xiang Guo, trumpet.
  • Heidi Pitkämäki, Project Director responsible for Visit Tampere’s Moomin programme, will give a speech, and a wreath will be laid at the Moomintroll statue.
• 10.15 am Moomin Dance Party in the Main Foyer led by accordion artist Henna Leppänen (30 min)
• 10.30 am Moomin Brunch at Restaurant Tuhto, ticketed 10.50 AM Moomin book reading session at Restaurant Majakka, read by Timo Torikka (30 min)
• 11.30 am Moomin Meet & Greet in Puistolämpiö 2 (approx. 30 min) 12 noon Moomin Brunch at Restaurant Tuhto, ticketed 12.15 pm Moomin Dance Party in the Main Foyer led by accordion artist Henna Leppänen (30 min)
• 12.45 pm Moomin Meet & Greet in Puistolämpiö 2 (approx. 30 min)
• 1.15 pm Moomin book reading session at Restaurant Majakka, read by Timo Torikka (30 min)
• 2 pm Moomin Brunch at Restaurant Tuhto, ticketed

The interactive summer exhibition Game On is open with extended hours from 9 am to 9 pm in honour of the celebration day and the Park Concert. Restaurant Tuhto is also open with extended hours from 11am to 9 pm.
