Moomin 80 - The Grand Birthday Celebration

Welcome to celebrate Moomin 80 - The Grand Birthday Celebration at Tampere Hall on 9th August 2025!

Tampere – the home city of the world’s only Moomin Museum – celebrates the Moomin 80 – Grand Birthday Party and Tove Jansson’s birthday at Tampere Hall on Saturday, August 9th 2025, from 12 PM to 5 PM. Bring the whole family – everyone is welcome!

Tampere Hall will be filled with a wide range of mainly free activities throughout the day:

• From 10 AM to 9 PM Van Gogh Alive -exhibition open at Sorsapuistosali (admission ticket required). Note! Exceptionally open until 9 PM.
• From 10 AM to 5 PM Moomin Museum open (admission ticket required) – workshop “Miniature Moominhouse in Clay” in the studio. Children’s guided tours (in Finnish) of the new Welcome to the Moominhouse! exhibition at 11 AM, 1 PM, and 3 PM.
• At 10:30 AM: Moomin Brunch at restaurant Tuhto (extra charge).
• At 11 AM Tove Jansson: The Invisible Child performance in the small auditorium (admission ticket required).
• At 11:45 AM: Wreath-laying ceremony with fanfare at the Moomintroll statue in front of Tampere Hall, by the edge of Sorsapuisto Park.
• At 12 PM–5 PM: Animation marathon in Duetto 2.
• At 12 PM–5 PM: Teddy Bear Hospital in Duetto 1 – bring your own plushie to see the teddy doctor.
• At 12 PM–5 PM: Sandudd's coloring workshop: Come color your own Moomin wallpaper!
• At 12 PM–5 PM: Lähitapiola's play corner and Kamu Cat in Puistolämpiö 2.
• At 12 PM: Cake and coffee for the first 1,000 guests on the 2nd floor of Tampere Hall. Please follow the instructions for queuing and wait calmly for your turn.
• At 12 PM: Moomin Brunch at restaurant Tuhto (extra charge).
• At 12:15 PM: Moomin Dance Party in the main lobby – experience the joy of dance with Henna Leppänen.
• At 12:30 PM: Moomin Meet & Greet outside Sopraano (approx. 20–25 min). Please follow the instructions for queuing and wait calmly for your turn.
• At 1 PM: "Message in a Bottle from the Island of Adventures" writing competition (August 9–November 9, 2025) declaration in the Tampere Hall lobby.
• At 1:30 PM: Moomin Meet & Greet outside Sopraano (approx. 20–25 min). Please follow the instructions for queuing and wait calmly for your turn.
• At 1:30 PM: Moomin Brunch at restaurant Tuhto (extra charge).
• At 2:00 PM: A greeting from the City of Tampere / Deputy Mayor Anne-Mari Jussila in the lobby of Tampere Hall.
• At 2 PM Tove Jansson: The Invisible Child performance in the small auditorium (admission ticket required).
• At 2 PM–5 PM: Creative Writing Workshop and “Message in a Bottle from the Island of Adventures” Writing Competition info desk. In collaboration with: Sanataideyhdistys Yöstäjä ry.
• At 2:15 PM: Moomin Dance Party in the main lobby – experience the joy of dance with Henna Leppänen.
• At 2:30 PM: Moomin Meet & Greet outside Sopraano (approx. 20–25 min). Please follow the instructions for queuing and wait calmly for your turn.
• At 3:30 PM: Moomin Meet & Greet outside Sopraano (approx. 20–25 min). Please follow the instructions for queuing and wait calmly for your turn.
• At 4:15 PM: Moomin Dance Party in the main lobby – experience the joy of dance with Henna Leppänen.
• At 6 PM: Park Concert in Sorsapuisto Park by the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra, Tampere Hall, and Tampere Energy. The concert is conducted by Matthew Halls, Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Tampere Philharmonic. Duration approx. 1,5 hours. World-renowned soprano Anu Komsi will perform as a soloist. DJ Juissi will also perform from 3 PM to 5:45 PM.

Be enchanted by puppet theatre performances

At the Small Auditorium of Tampere Hall, you can enjoy “Tove Jansson: The Invisible Child” at 11 AM and 2 PM (ticket required). This high-quality puppet theatre performance is brought to you by Theatre Hevosenkenkä from Espoo. The show lasts about 40 minutes and is suitable for ages 3 and up.

Visit the world’s only Moomin Museum

The Moomin Museum joins in the celebration of the Grand Birthday Party! The museum’s Atelier hosts the guided workshop “Miniature Moominhouse with Modeling” all day from 10 AM to 5 PM. There will also be guided children’s tours of the new Welcome to the Moominhouse! exhibition at 11 AM, 1 PM, and 3 PM. Each tour lasts 30 minutes. Admission to the Moomin Museum on the celebration day is 4 euros, and children under 7 get in for free.

Experience the world’s most popular immersive art exhibition

You can also visit the Van Gogh Alive summer exhibition in Sorsapuistosali during the day. Admission ticket required. The exhibition will be exceptionally open on Saturday, August 9, 2025, until 9 PM. Happy Hour tickets are available for the evening from 5 PM to 9 PM for 10 € (regular price 22 €).
