Light Gallery 2025: Tove Jansson’s First Moomin Story as Light Art

In honor of the Moomin 80th anniversary, Tampere Art Museum’s collection artist Tove Jansson has been chosen as the Light Gallery artist of 2025. The light art installation, projected onto the facades of central Tampere buildings, is titled The Moomins’ Journey Home. The illustrations have been selected from Jansson’s very first Moomin story. Light Gallery is part of the Tampere Festival of Light, opening 24 October 2025.

Tampere Festival of Light illuminates the city – Opening ceremony in Koskipuisto Park on 24 October

Tampere Festival of Light is back to brighten up the darkest time of the year with a variety of illuminations and events. The traditional opening ceremony will be held in Koskipuisto Park on Friday, 24 October at 7 pm, and admission to the event is free. This year, the festival will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Moomins with Moomin-themed lighting displays and the Light Gallery exhibition titled The Moomins’ Journey Home.

An adventure in the hometown of the Moomin Museum kicks off the winter holiday in Tampere

Region’s winter holiday starts on 22–23 February 2025 with a weekend event that invites children and childminded people alike to the centre of Tampere for an adventure. There are eight different stops along the route and participants can enter a competition to win a private visit to the world's only Moomin Museum. The event is part of the Moomin 80 anniversary year programme.

Tampere is Home of the Moomin Museum – Moomin experiences for tourists as well as for locals

The city of Tampere has signed a three-year cooperation agreement with Moomin Characters Oy Ltd. The 80th anniversary of the Moomins marks the beginning of a partnership that will highlight Tampere as the home of the only Moomin Museum in the world.

Tove Jansson's first illustration of the Moomin House is the highlight of the Moomin Museum's renewed main exhibition

On 21 September 2024, the Moomin Museum will reopen with new original Moomin illustrations by Tove Jansson. All of the museum's paper-based works have been replaced with new works from the collection donated by Tove Jansson. These illustrations are on display for the first time at the Moomin Museum. The jewel of the new exhibition is Tove Jansson's very first illustration of the Moomin House.
